resizing a drive

  broggs 20:02 29 Mar 05

I fitted a new drive to my pc 200gig western digital caviarjb on setup using data lifeguard it says that if you are installing a system less than win xp sp1 the drive must be set to 137 gig as systems before this did not support large drives. As I was not sure and as it said I would suffer data loss if I set it to 200 g I set it to 137g to be safe as it says that i can change it back once windows was upgraded .
I installed win xp pro and upgraded to sp2.

How do I change the drive to 200g. I have datalifeguard for windows(this says you wil lose all data if changing) I also have pqmagic 8 (which does not show 200g but 137g.the file system is ntfs

(start > run > regedit <enter>) and go to the following folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Parameters there add a new key named "EnableBigLba" , type: "REG_DWORD" and "value 1" (excluding the quotes (")) now restart and your windows will see the true size.

Does PQM show any unallocate space?

Is there a 137G clip jumper on the rear of the drive?

I'll check that

it should offer your an option to resize your drive or create a new partition using space unused

the latest version is 8.05

  broggs 20:47 30 Mar 05

its not showing any unused space or giving the option to resize the drive

I use a 200Gb but it's what I made up as External USB2 Drive. I us it on Win98se and XP comps. I divided it up into four partitions with Acronis the biggest partition is 124Gb all Fat32
