Resetting Full Waste ink tank counter in iP4000

Can anyone tell me how to reset the "full waste ink tank counter" in my Canon Pixma iP4000?
Or get at the tank to empty it, I can only use a folded paper towel to soak up some of the ink; but the printer still insists that the tank is full!
Canon are not much help, suggesting that I send it to a serviced agent --- the nearest to Belfast is Dublin!

Thanks Jack,
.... but I'm afraid that this, so far, has not been successful.
There is one item about another Canon printer, but the given code does not work with the ip4000.
Wouldn't it be great if Canon "spilt the beans" and revealed the code, instead of insisting that the printer be sent to a service agent [the nearest one is in DUBLIN!].
