replacing an IDE External dive with a SATA one

My Seagate 320GB external drive has failed - XP will not recognise it. If I buy another External drive can I substitute a SATA one? I am only using it as a daily backup so read/write speed is not important.

I have had 3 Seagate’s 320 barracuda’s and they all went down, i replaced with an Hitachi 400 Gig and that’s so so quiet. If replace with a sata HD then make sure you can get the adapters to switch from 1 to the other, take the caddy with you to the shop when u make ur purchase. Pc world are very much cheaper nowadays.

I would download Seagates Diagnostic software first and see what that has to say about your failed disk(It may be OK)

Seagate might have a 3 year warranty as weston digitals do, worth checking out.
