Replacing hard drive

Hi people, I need to replace my hard drive, can anyone advize me for the best way to do this in order copy things over from old one.

Put the new drive in set as master. Load the OS when it is loaded put the old drive in as slave copy anything you need from old drive to new drive. Thats how I would do it but Im sure others will have better methods.

retail boxed drives come with sofware that copies the entire old disc over to the new, you set the new drive as slave then when its all done change it to master. you can get and oem drive and download the software first if you wish. I used a seagate drive and it's discwizard software and it all worked ok.
