Do I have to uninstall drivers for the old router & if so what is the best proceedure?

I would expect you to have to uninstall the old router before installing the new one. Go to control panel - add/remove progs and remove the old router prog. Then right click on my computer then hardware then device manager then scroll down to the network adaptors and click on the plus sign. Find your present router and right click on it then properties and then uninstall. Reboot your pc and then follow the instructions for your new router. You will probably need your sign in details for your cable provider to set it up. If the router was supplied by the cable company for you then it might have your details pre programmed into it for you.
