Replacement wireless card or not?

Daughter has a Dell Inspiron 1750 which will not wirelessly connect to the router in her house where I can and have done with a Dell Inspiron 1720 and my latest laptop which is an Acer 5742. I think the wireless card is Kaputt. I have installed all up to date drivers and still no good. Do I need to replace that card or could I use a usb wireless dongle instead.

If you're sure the on-board Wireless Network Adapter has failed, then "Yes" you can install and use a USB adapter instead. Go into the Network Connections folder ("Start > Run", type ncpa.cpl and click OK), right click the existing Wireless Network Connection and select "Disable". Then install the new USB WiFi dongle.
