Replacement screen

Hi group newbie here.

Ok I have an HP 6735s, and a couple of weeks ago the screen started to have white lines going across the horizontally, and dashed across, they got quicker and quicker, then just got the black screen. However if I plug in a monitor to the external display then everything is ok, on the external monitor.

I then decided to take the laptop apart and give a good clean, put everything back together, and hey everything was working fine again for about an hour, now I on boot up, I get one line down the centre of the screen, with one half black, the other half grey.

Telephoned a repair shop, and they said I need a new screen, however I am not convinced, any ideas please guys??

That sort of fault is often caused by the cable connection - either on the mobo or back of screen. Before buying new screen, suggest strip it down again and have a wiggle! It could also be a break in one of the wires where the cable gets flexed through the hinge.
