Replace Windows XP SP1 file

If anybody read my last problem about the System task randomly going to 100%, I thought I had fixed it. I have not, it has returned and just happened again. I have now done detailled examination of the System task to find out what dll's are registered and what are being processed. I have found the USBPORT.SYS is using all the processor time.

I have checked the file version and I have version 5.1.2600.1243. My brothers computer has version 5.1.2600.2180. I am trying to copy his file onto my computer and put it in the same directory, however, every time I try, Windows replaces the file with the old copy after a few seconds. Does anybody know how to force XP to accept a file replacement.

I think because the 5.1.2600.2180 file is for sp2
not sure but i have that 1 and i have sp2 in the system 32 folder,i also have 5.1.2600.1106 in the $NTservice pack files from hen i had sp1.

it probably does come with Windows XP SP2. But, it is that file, that is cauing me grief. I am pretty sure about it so willing to try changing it for a newer one.
