Located in Windows/System, 55296 bytes - you'll need to extract it from the .cab files on your Windows 98 CD and copy it across after booting from a system floppy. (
You can do it with Winzip, Izarc, 7Zip click here.

If you compare the extracted version and the original and find they are identical, don't bother. (Windiff, search for it on your '98 CD)

What's the date of the newer file?

  Skyver 23:46 05 Feb 06

Can you check the version number etc if you right click it?

Skyver 23:47 05 Feb 06 here, with a fully up-to-date system, notwithstanding I haven't used it for several days.

Changed the wretched dll via safe mode and sfc. PC now reuses to get past win background. Message is illegal whatsit . Any alternative to wipe disc and reinstall?

Restore the original? I'll email the '98 one if required.
