I have had fitted for more than a year a Freecom 80mb external drive which has worked fine.

Recently having temporily removed the drive on connecting, its drive letter change and ever since it has been difficult to get the computer to recognise the drive when the machine has been shut down for some time.

Once rcognised, as long as the machine stays running, it can be restarted with the drive been recognised without difficulty.

Can any one help please

Refresh the USB ports.

Right click My computer - properties -hardware - device manager.

Uninstall EVERTHING under the heading USB root hubs and all.

reboot the PC and XP will find and reinstall all the ports and anyting plugged into them.
