Renaming a folder does not work

When I make a new folder and try to remame it it does not let me do it. Sometimes I get 2 letters typed and thats it. Any ideas??

Thanks for this, did not help as it is the folder I cannot rename rather tan the files

There is a limit to the maximum number of characters that Windows supports for a file or folder pathway...........If the folder you create is within other folders within,for example Documents and Settings you might be exceeding that maximum.

Try creating a new folder on the Desktop and see if you can rename that one.

Thanks, tried this but when I right click to rename the folder to type say, 'winter' I get as far as 'wi' then it stops almost as if I'd pressed the enter key to finish. Arghhhhh...

Try repairing Internet Explorer?
This also affects Windows Explorer which is what you are using.
