Renaming Files:- say.old

Assuming that I take a note of where it is and what it's name was, so that if I need it I can find it again.

What are the risks involved and will reverting to the old name mean that the file, program, whatever be available once again.

Prompted by changes of mdm.exe and mdm.ini to mdm.old

Also what other .tag's might be appropriate

Yes, once you revert to the old name it will work the same way again. You can usually rename the file to almost anything, wee eddie, but using the extension or a prefix of old is the usual convention. i.e filename.old or oldfilename.???
