Rename drive partitions

I have bought a Maxtor One Touch 11 250GB external Hard Drive and divided it into 6 partitions. As I intend to use this on different PC's, I believe I have made an error calling the new volumes E:, F:, G:, H: as these will duplicate some drive letters on other PC's. It would be better to call them Maxtor 1,2 etc. Can I do this?
Also the remaining 77.52GB which is showing as unallocated, will not allow me to create any more partitions. Any ideas why please?

thanks for that - it would seem that one can only call a drive volume by a letter, is that right?

Any idea why the remaining 77.52GB won't allow me to create another partition?
