For weeks have I been trying to get rid of Windows Defender. Everytime I log on I get the message: Application failed to initialize: Error 0x800106ba. I tried most of the help already mentioned on the Forum, including editing the Command Prompt.(C:\)with:
sc config WinDefend start= "disable"
sc stop WinDefend
Without success.
Any help greatly appreciated

I don't think you can remove it from Vista. But I am sure someone will prove me wrong.

There is a free Windows defender uninstall tool.
Haven't tried it mind.
I was happy enough just to disable mine.

It's part of the OS so can only disable. Have a look here and see if this helps; click here

Perhaps a silly question, but have you tried simply disabling it in Services?
I disabled mine no problem.
