Every time I access the internet I get a buff coloured message as follows:

"Messenger Service

Message from to TO on …date ….time
STOP! WINDOWS REQUIRES IMMEDIATE ATTENTION.
Windows has found 55 critical errors.
To fix the errors do the following

1. Download Registry Update from click here
2. Install Registry Update
3. Run Registry Update
4. Reboot your computer.

FAILURE TO ACT NOW MAY LEAD TO SYSTEM FAILURE!"

This message and another one, pop up every couple of minutes or so and this is becoming extremely irritating.

I have endeavoured to remove "Windows Messenger" from my system, and no longer get the icon in the system tray, but this message still persists. Incidentally, I have no intentions of following the message instructions.

Please, can anyone help in removing it for me - I would be eternally gratefull.

do you have any anti malware/ virus software? and have you ran a scan with it?

I am running Norton Internet Security 2006 - just about due for renewal - but it hasn't stopped these messages.

Thanks for the prompt reply - much appreciated.

Thanks also for the website pointer - have tried other methods to remove Windows Messenger - will have another go with latest instructions.

Thanks again

Thanks for your reply - have got rid of these nuisance messages once before - but doesn't seem to work this time.

Messaging is supposed to be turned off. Perhaps there is something I have neglected to do?

Will try again.

Try right click My computer\Manage\ Services Look for Messaging and Disable it. SP2 does this when you load it

its under 'solution' on my 2237 post

Thanks again!

Messenger was on automatic, have now disabled it.

Senior moments I'm afraid. Forgot that one.

You have just earned your angel wings first class. :)
