removing partition

Got a computer running vista and xp as dual boot.
xp home runs fine, but on this machine vista is a joke. eventually we will upgrade the hardware, but for now we want to remove the vista partition as we gave this 50gb and we want to use this DEAD space for xp. can i remove this simply or do i have to re install the genuine xp home via cd. crossing my fingers for the first option.

use parted magic click here
Download it and burn to CD.
Boot from it and you can merge, delete and create partitions to your hearts content.
One tip though,it will speed things up if you delete the unwanted partition first before merging.
