removing a network connection

I have acquired an old computer from work.It is running XP professional and was connected to the companys network connection. All I get on start -up is a blue screen tellin me I am not connected to the network. Is there any way of getting Windows to start normally without the need for a network connection, possibly by removing it?

Dunno if this will help, but it is somewhere to start.

ps ... you could of course start in Safe Mode and then try the removal.

It is probably only set to boot from the network at the moment.

Have a look in the BIOS and set the First Boot device to CD second to hard drive.Save and exit and see if it will boot.
