Removing applications @ startup

Using HP Desktop with XP Pro.

How can I remove applications that I rarely use from the start up process, sometimes I do need them but I would rather open them myself when required. In addition how do I remove icons from my system tray.

Thanks in advance

I use the free RegCleaner click here (XP Pro here too).

It creates a backup, so one can easily restore any changes made. From about 20 startup entries at one point, I've cut mine down to just 7. G

WinPatrol is also excellent. It allows you to remove or just disable items from your startup menu:

Manualy

Click 'start'-run - type msconfig

This will open up a window, click the start up tab and deselect any programs you do not want to start. Take care not to deselect your anti-virus...

Close and reboot...

Thank you everyone - although a trifling thing it really irritated me - irritation now removed.

Once again thanks
