remove a partitioned version of XP

I think the heading is right but here goes guys.....
I bought a 2nd hand laptop which the seller wiped and re-installed XP.
I now have two versions of it at the start-up menu. The second one boots me into his old profile and the first is set to mines. Can I easily remove the 2nd version so only mine is left. I assume this would free up memory as well.

I hope you got all the disks and manuals off the seller. In which case it would be best to reformat and reinstall. The manual should tell you how.

I now have two versions of it at the start-up menu.

Do you mean two users on the welcome page?

or do you get a menu on boot up asking which version of windows you want to use?

I get a menu at boot asking which version I want to use.
