remove duplicate windows OS

In my attempt to upgrade my Windows XP software from Home to Pro edition, I wound up with duplicate operating systems and I am forced to chose one of the two every time I boot. Is there a way to remove the Home version and avoid the selection process? I would rather not reformat the disk and install Win Pro on the clean disk. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you
