Removable drive letters with multi partitions

I have two removable drives with two partitions on one and three on the other.
These drives are not necessarily connected at the same time but may be, and not necessarily add in any sequence.
I want a particular drive/partition to retain its letter.
If I attach the drives at different times in the opposite time order the first seems to steal the letters of the other drive.

I know I can use names for my (human) benefit, but can I solve it for backup software that uses letters not the drive name?
Thank you.

Plug in drives
Use disk management to change the drive letters
call one V W
the other X Y Z
they should then stay the same whenever you connect /disconnect.

Thank you Fruit Bat, it does as long as I don't connect to my other computer, then it doesn't seem to work unless I plug in the one with the lowest letters first.
