Reinstalling Drivers

Hi. I am a bit of a numpty when it comes to computers. I have had to reinstall Windows XP on my PC after an error on my hard drive. I couldn't access the drive contents by any means. So, a nice clean computer. However I am assuming I need to reinstall my drivers for my graphics and sound cards. Is this correct as I cannot find reference to either device under hardware manager. I have the installation CD's somewhere so I am hoping it is just a case of following the on screen instructions. Has anyone else ever done this and are there any pitfalls I should look out for.

Thanks in advance.

First off, do you know the make and model of the PC? IF so, that will make it easy to track down the components in it.

click here and install the free Belarc Advisor. This may give you the make and model number of the machine as well as detected hardware.

Thanks for the replies. The PC was built for me by a friend using mostly "name" components. However this was 4 years ago and the graphics card is an NVidea from that time. I am not sure what the sound card is but I have the discs in the loft. I will get them out and try installing them tonight and will let you know how I get on. I am looking at getting a new PC anyway and giving this one to my mum so that is why I would like to get it up and running.

cheers

Load the CD that came with the motherboard into the cd drive CD should load automatic

click on drivers section and install all the drivers listed you should reboot the PC if

requested after each driver is installed

Chipset Driver, Audio Driver, VGA Driver, LAN Card Driver, USB 2 Drivers, Etc

Once you have loaded the motherboard drivers install your anti-virus software and update it

You now need to update the OS from Microsoft site before installing any other software

If XP download the SP3 will save time and the waiting for the 100 plus update for XP to

be download and installed

If Vista download the SP1 and Install

Once all updates are completed you can install all the other software that you required
