reinstall xp home

I am trying to reinstall xp home but I cannot get of first base because all I get is a message telling me that I cannot remove the version on the computer because it is newer than the xp disc.
I don`t understand this because I have never changed the cd it`s the original the only thing Iv`e done is updated to sp2.
Iv`e tried to format c drive but that`s been refused as well.
Any ideas anyone?

Go into the bios and change the boot order to boot from cd.Place the windows cd in the cd drive you have selected in the bios to boot from and save and exit the bios. The computer will boot from the window cd and give you all the options to reformat and install XP.
