Reinstall - deleted D drive files problem

  novis 12:21 05 Jul 06

I have a Sony Vaio and use Windows XP home edition which I had to reinstall from the Sony systems recovery CD-ROM which states that “all data in Drive C is deleted” and “Confirm procedure: You have chosen to erase all date on Drive C … The data on other drives is not changed …”

However, files on the D drive were deleted.

a) Are they recoverable?
b) Is this too complicated for a novice such as myself?
c) How?

The machine is no longer under warranty. However, am I right in thinking that the information on the setup is incorrect/misleading and that it is Sony’s responsibility to recover the lost files?

How can I speak to someone at Sony direct so that I can resolve the problem?

If the original disc was partitioned into two sections C & D I`m afraid you`ve lost the lot. It may be possible to recover some of the files but it isn`t guaranteed - someone will hopefully come along with some suggestions for software that might do it.

Hopefully someone will. This is really bad news. There was a C & D partition and the software specifically said that only Drive C would be affected.

Did you partition the drive yourself?
