Regular blank screen crashes

I'm getting regular crashes when gaming. games will run for a few minutes with no problem, then my screen goes blank, saying no signal to monitor.
i'm having no trouble in any other way, only when gaming.
have tried a system restore, updating drivers and a different monitor. i'm guessing its a graphics card issue. Please has anyone got any ideas whats wrong?
I'm running
NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT, with vista.

If this occurs when gaming it suggests that the graphics card is overheating when being worked to its maximum.

I would suggest for a start taking the card out and giving it a clean if dusty.

Likewise make sure there is good airflow through the case.

Thanks bremner, that seems to have done the trick.
