I read on this forum about people given advise about backing up your registry.
Should every body do this or only if you make changes.
And if so how do you do it.

Cheers.

It's always wise to back up your registry before editing it, since a slip of the mouse can cause all sorts of grief when you're playing around in the registry.

To back up - in the registry editor's left pane, just right click the key you want to back up (or My Computer to back up the whole registry). Select Export.

A dialogue box appears allowing you to pick a path where you want to save the backup file. You might also notice that the "Save as type" drop down box gives you five choices: you can save as registration files (*.reg), registry hive files (*.*), text files (*.txt), Win 9x/NT 4 registration files (*.reg) or "All files".

The default is to save as registration files.
