my pc is xp home, sata striped hds labeled "c" (ntfs).
i need to reformat an ide hd with 98se (fat32), partitioned as "c" and "d" already on it.
can i install it in my pc as a slave ide hd, even with the 98se and "c" partition on it, and reformat it without any problems? has it to be done in safe mode?

Put it in as slave and then go into disk management; from there you can format as required.

To get to disk management, right click on "my computer" and choose manage, then disk management.

There's a deafening silence on this one!

I think the 98 drive would simply become drive D on the XP machine, and you could format and fdisk as any other slave drive.

Not sure whether you could do this in safe mode, but I don't think it would be necessary anyway.
