I would like to reformat my harddrive, but I have been wondering whether I would be able to use a Windows XP home edition UPGRADE cd instead of a FULL version to put on my harddrive. This is a brand new upgrade cd which I have. Any answers would be welcome.

I was also wondering how long it would take to reformat the drive. It a 20Gb harddrive, with 10Gb used up.

to clean install you would need full version of xp or reinstall your origional software then upgrade

cheers Terrahawk
But I have had the commputer for about a year ad have somehow lost the original cd, any other possibilities out there?!

i think you can only use the upgrade cd if you have an earlier version of windows.

upgrade cd`s can be used as upgrade or full installation, but you need the former to be installed for upgrade or the disc for verification
when clean installing

Enter "format" and your OS into the search box at the top.....also you will get more response if you start a fresh posting (with a title like "how do I format Harddrive" or something like that.

Good luck.
