Redirection of Domain.

Hi, I am looking at purchasing a new domain to redirect to my blog on my current domain. I was wondering how this would affect my search engine ranking.

I don't think it will make any difference as it will still reference as my current domain but I thought it would be best to ask those who know better than me.

Thanks in advance

Aidan

if you redirect using the registrars redirect service i don't think the domain will get the same ranking but if you buy it then build a site for redirection and with tags included in the page for search engines to pick up it would rank the same or higher!

Just purchase a domain and then point some clever PHP (or .htaccess) file to send it to your blog. Or if your hosting allows more than one domian stick your blog on the new domain and keep your site on the old.

Thanks for both bits of advice. I will look into doing that.

Thanks

Make sure that the redirect is a 301 redirect and Google will be happy.

If it a 302 redirect you will end up with lots of problems.

Seek out the blog of Matt Cutts who works for Google and explains it all.
