Red 'X' where picture should be

When I'm surfing the web a red 'X' appears where a picture should be. Am I short of some software to view it or have I a problem elsewhere.

it can be due to java vm machine not updated or enabled, tools/internet options/advanced/ scroll down to vm machine and check ticked also scroll to multimedia and make sure show pictures is ticked.

I'm trying to post a picture onto a message board/forum using

, but get the red X when I preview the message. Can anyone please help.

the red X can be due to several reasons that I am aware of, johnyrocker has noted one. Another can be due to browser security and/or privacy settings. Have a look at these.

If your ISP has dropped your connection, or you're looking at a web page off line you often can't see the pictures; instead there is a red cross. Check that you're still connected; that could be the solution.

In norton internet security disable "privacy control" under internet status. This has just worked for me.

You could try the PC Pitstop site at click here

Run the check, then let it test your browser settings.

I've just sent an e-mail to a friend after adding oictures in the text part of the message, but he only gets a red 'X'. I'm using Outlook Express, and so is he. Any ideas
