Recovery of photos on corrupted DVD+RW

I have archived some photos (jpg files) on DVD+RW

When I put it in my DVD drive it cannot be read and the My Computer display does not register the disk at all.

Is there anyway of recovering files from the DVD? I have seen recovery software advertised, but will it work if Windows doesn't register the DVD's presence?

I had read that using RW CD or DVD is not a good idea - so I have backed up the disc in the past, but not recently enough

For future advice
Never use a rewrite DVD or CD the reflectivity is much lower and therefore dat is more easily lost. Always use a recordable DVD or CD (cheaper an more reliable), use multisession to and then you can just add files until the disk is full and then finaise so it can be use in other machines.

First clean the DVD disk thougherly second use a DVD lens cleaner to clan the DVD drive and then retry.

BADOPY Pro is goo forretieving RW disks that use the UDF file writing i.e. Nero InCD or roxio.
