Recovery console

If I load the recovery console from the windows XP disk. what are the down sides to this tool.

Why do you want to use it? and you do not use it to do a Repair of the OS. If you want to Repair XP start with the XP CD wait till it stops loading then choose Setup, after it checks the Hard Drive it will show you already have XP on the Drive, click on what it found then press R. It will start to do a Repair

Thanks woodchip yes I would like to do it that way but I do not get access to do a Repair.

Here's a guide to doing a repair click here

and using Recovery Console click here

As I said above you have to first choose Windows Setup

Thanks VoG™ it will have to be the second option. When I use the first option I do not get the R option after F8

One final question when using the recovery console would the chkdsk /f command lose any personal data.
