Recovering Overwritten Excel File

Is it possible to recover an excel file which I have accidentally overwritten on my laptop, ie "the file already exists do you want to replace it." Hit yes and then realised I needed a copy of the original.

Application Recovery in Office tools recovers programs that have stopped responding and saves your work. It doesn't recover overwritten documents, unfortunately.

You could try click here (run it from a floppy) but I don't hold out much hope.

is that you might have autobackup on...

If so, whenever you save a file a version of the previous saved file is also saved, but with a different file extension...

In WORD it's .bak in Excel I can't remember of the top of my head.

It's for EXACTLY the situation you describe.

From Excel help...

On the File menu, click Save As.

On the Tools menu, click General Options.

Select the Always create backup check box.

Click OK, and then click Save.

Godd luck,
