Power unit went bang and 3 electrolytic capacitors on the Mbd have also failed. So need new PU and M'bd. How can I recover the data from hard drive? Could I put the drive in another PC, as a slave, and access the data? Using XP.

The hard drive has the operating system as well. Will this make difference?

"The hard drive has the operating system as well. Will this make difference?" - No, as long as you have the new main drive set to boot first in the BIOS, your present drive will act as a secondary drive (i.e. even if it also has an OS installed). G
