Recovering Data

My friends laptop went down at the weekend and he needs the dat for work. I connected the harddrive to my PC with a USB caddy. Ican see some files, but when I try to open pictures or music it displays access denied. He had logon password, which we can't remove.I've tried to set the folder up for sharing, but that doesn't help either. Can anyone throw any ideas my way.

Thanks very much

To remove user privacy settings on another disk, you have to take ownership, which is done in the Administrator account in Safe Mode. I can't guarantee that it can be done on what has become an external USB drive, however.

Thanks ade.h

It did work with safe mode, i knew I'd done something like this before, but couldn't remember how. Thanks again.
