I need to recover my desktop Vista back to factory settings. There is a recovery partition which says it is healthy.

When I start the recovery process, it searches for a recovery location but doesn't find one.

Any ideas, please?

Usually brand-named PCs will have a recovery manager and you may find some help files there. If you have, or are able to do, then burn the recovery DVDs and restore to factory settings using them.

It's an Ebuyer Zoostorm.

Procedure to access hidden Vista Home Premium partition Zoostorm Q6600

Switch on your computer tap the F8 key a menu will be displayed advanced boot options select repair my pc press enter, system recovery options will be displayed select advanced options, press enter, select username and enter your password only if you have one then click ok.

On the next screen menu select command prompt (dos command). A new black window (dos screen) will display and type restore press enter then press y enter to continue, at this stage C drive will start to be re-formatted the restore is now in progress and there is no going back, do not switch your pc off or reboot as this could damage your pc when completed please select y to continue then select restart, the machine will take several minutes to start up as it will go through its configuration stage and do not restart your pc during this stage.

Ensure your data is backed up as all will be lost during this process, the operating system and all drivers will be re-instated and your machine will be as delivered from the supplier.

Thanks, spotted that, I'm now doing all the things you have to do with a new computer. Turned automatic updates off for now or it will nag me no end.

select restart, the machine will take several minutes to start up as it will go through its configuration stage and do not restart your pc during this stage.

Go boil the kettle and have a coffee. That's what I do, far less streeful!
