Recording from internet

When I am recording from the internet using Audacity or similar I have to have the volume turned up. If I turn it down or the speakers off it will not work. Is there a remedy please?
Some programs also pick up any noise in the room. Any suggestions please?

If programs are picking up noise in the room then you must have some sort of microphone on your system and will need to disable it.
No idea why it won't record with the speakers off, seems odd to me, depends on how you are recording I suppose and you don't say exactly what you are doing or how you are doing it and what hardware you are using to do it.

I probably couldn't help much anyway as I've never recorded music from the net.

Thanks Marg7, I have no box on Audacity as you describe so cannot select 'stereo mixer'.

I now have a box next to the volume bars but it is 'greyed' out

Hi,
Sorry for delay in replying.

Have now got stereo mix working and can turn off speakers and still record.

Had another problem - recording and hearing an echo but changing setting on Audacity and un-ticking "software playthrough" everything ok now.

Many thanks Marg7
