Record video so DVD player can play it

Can anyone tell me the best software to use so I can record my WMA's to DVD and then play them through my stand alone DVD player? I say WMA because I am using Windows movie maker, is there a better package?
Is it better to record them as AVI's in a different package?
Or another format?

All Advice appreciated.

First thing you have to do is find out which formats your DVD player can read.

from WMM, save the file as avi and then use a MPEG2 encorder to convert to MPEG2 format and then use an authoring tool to make DVD. Any good video editing program will do all those. Nero Vision Express is not too bad, but for value for money and easy of use, I would say Ulead Videostudio
