Record Audacity WAV to audio CD

Am using minidisc to record interviews and Audacity to edit them. Audacity says export the edited files as WAV to burn them onto CD.

But my original version of Windows Media Player says that WAV is not a recognised format, the most recent version accepts it, says it is 'playing' but produces no sound.
When I click 'burn' says it is burning using Roxio then stops crying '..error, try again'.

My normal burning programmes, Adaptec Direct and Adaptec Easy won't accept the WAV files either.

What am I doing wrong ? Have Windows 98
