Howdy all, currently I have:

XP2400+
1GB 266 memory
80GB ATA HDD
Radeon X800 GTO 128mb AGP
Abit NF7 V2.0 nForce2 Socket A 8xAGP

What would you recommend I upgrade to improve system performance?

I have noticed on Elder Scrolls: Oblivion that the framerate can get poor, especially when there are numerous characters onscreen.

I have tried the recommended settings (1024*768 on high detail, no AA) and then dropped to 800*600 mdeium detail but with seemingly no imrovement....I can only assume that what I used to class as my uber PC is now very sub uber....

Well your system is above the minimum requirements:

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion System Requirements

Recommended:

* 3 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
* 1 GB System RAM
* ATI X800 series, Nvidia GeForce 6800 series, or higher video card

Minimum System Requirements:

* Windows XP
* 512MB System RAM
* 2 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
* 128MB Direct3D compatible video card
* and DirectX 9.0 compatible driver;
* 8x DVD-ROM drive
* 4.6 GB free hard disk space
* DirectX 9.0c (included)
* DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card
* Keyboard, Mouse

If anything the weakest link is your cpu....but upgrading that will need a new motherboard as well....there is not much available for socket A these days.

Realistically you are looking at a new pc...and a top of the range gaming rig at that to get the best out of Oblivion.

In the meantime this will help you get the best out of what you have click here

Look at post number 55 by Koroush Ghazi.....He is the owner of the Tweak Guide site. If that link doesn't work this one should take you direct to the post you need click here

Cheers, there are some decent tips there, will run through them and see if the performance increases from there on.
