Hi,

I'm looking to buy a USB 2.0 Hub for my PC, easy I thought, but Ive been reading that some USB devices are "power hungry" and will only work using a mains powered USB hub!?

The device I have to conect to USB ports are...

Printer
Scanner
An internal HDD/Optical Drive (using a USB to IDE adapter cable)
Webcam
IrDA Receiver
Digital Camera
Gamepad

I currently have 4 rear USB 2.0 ports, and 2 front ports but Id like to keep the front ones free for quick access such as pen drives, external HDD etc.

Which of the above items would need a "powered" USB 2.0 Hub?

And can anyone recommend a good, cheap one?

Cheers!

From you list, the scanner/printer will need a powered hub (but will work much more smoothly if you run it via a regular USB connection).

Have you thought of a PCI USB2 card which you can install very easily? You will likely need a PSU of about 350w minimum.

PS Aldi do sometimes have PC components at a good price.

Doh! How stupid am I! I never thought about putting in a PCI card!

My PSU is 450W so it should be Ok, so its the best option all round!

Thank you for opening my eyes Diodorus Siculus!
