Receive university wifi off campus

My daughter lives just off campus and using her rock direct pegasus ti laptop running windows XP she can just get an intermittent signal from the Uni WLAN in her digs- hit and miss, sometimes works but usually the signal is visible but too low signal strength to use.

Please can anyone recommend any suitable kit either as a dongle or a pcmica card or any other means of boosting the signals received?

Here is a link to the BT shop which has the Dish Adapter at a lower price. click here It also appears to have them in stock, rarther than waiting 4 - 7 weeks with Amazon.
