It is usually a file that saves monitor information such as position of items on the desktop. Realtak also produce sound card drivers and I would suspect that you have an AC97 card.

Realtek also make LAN chips - realtek sound and LAN chips are often used on motherboards with in-built sound and LAN ports. My QDI board uses both of them.
