I have finally sussed out why my volume has been fluctuating. It changes according to the Realplayer settings.

Any idea how I can regain control without uninstalling the utility?

If RealPlayer is set as your default player might be worth disabling it and using, say, Windows Media Player as the default.

Real also needs to be hacked back hard on its configuration to ensure that it does as you want and not real.com

There's also RealAlternative....:-)

It is not set as my default player.

However I recently tried Jetaudio (on the recommendations of the forum) and did not like it.
So I use Real for playing certain files (.mov for instance) and BBC radio, and WMP for all else.
However I will have another look at the configuration.

I have tried looking at the configuration.

Anybody else got any ideas?
