Reading very old WordPerfect Files

I have an archive of several thousand files created in WP6.1. This did not support long file names, only 8letters+3 extension letters, so the files were saved using 8 letter cryptic names and .001 :.002 etc. to represent different versions. The main distinguishing features were recorded using around 25 letters the "file description" field.
I now need to resurrect some of these and although they can be opened in current versions of WordPerfect there seems to be no easy way of accessing the file description field without opening each file individually.
Is there any way in which I can automate this process and save the files in "File-description.wpd" format so that I can easily see which files I need

Hi TATHS have you tried Google?. If not,I'm sure someone in the forum will help. I'm sorry if this sounds obvious, but you never know it might be there. Sorry I can't help anymore. regards Sconedd.
