I have received an email with attachment from a friend, after saving the attachment and opening it I find it is just letters and spaces with the letter y most prominent. Is there a solution or will I have to ask my friend to post me the info. Any advice is appreciated

What type of document is it? What is the extension - .doc for example?

It is a .doc file

.doc of course would normally need Word or similar to open and make readable. But it may depend on which version and which program created the .doc, I believe some later versions are not backward compatible with older version - or vice-verca!

Oops - vice-versa!

So which program are you trying to open the attachment with?

You need to use Word or Open Office to view the attachment.

If you don't have Word, it will open in Word Pad.

Start>All Programs>Accessories>Word Pad ...
