Read Only files on CD

Am I being really thick here? I thought that the whole point of re-writable CDs was that you could re-use the CD, deleting files and re-writing onto the CD as you could with a floppy. When I try to delete a no longer needed file (I am referring to text files, not music) I get the message "this is a read only file do you still want to delete" and I say "yes" and then I get a message saying "this is a read only file you cannot delete it". I know I can overwrite files. Am I doing something wrong at the initial "write files to CD" stage. Can I turn the "read only" off when I first copy the file?

I get this too and here's what I do:

If you read the CD from your DVD/CD drive it will say that your files are Read only because that drive is unable to delete it you have to put the RW/CD in your RW drive then you can do what you want with them.

whatch it though Neet - any deleted files from a CDRW do not go in the recycle bin

Yeah, I learnt that the hard way when I first started playing with floppies! Thanks for the warning though.
