Re-installing USB2

  1933 12:05 26 Apr 06

As I have been getting "No USB2 vaialable" errors I found the required file on the CD supplied by Medion. However when I tried to install I had a message that it was not possible to install USB2 AFTER Win Service Packs have been installed. Any ideas if it is possible to get round this? Thanks DG

I am assuming you are using xp

if you have sp2 the drivers should already be on your machine

click start control panel add hardware and follow the wizard let it find the drivers

Uninstall ALL USB root hubs in device manager.

when all the USB devices have ben uninstalled and USB no longer appears in device manager, then click Action and select "scan for new hardware".

Let XP find your devices and reinstall all the USB equipment. When XP has finished install all USB equipment check s the word "Enhanced" appears under the drivers for USB. this mens windows has installed the USB2 drivers.

Hi, I tried removing all the USB entries and after a re-boot they were all found again - but only as USB1. I guess I will have to reformat and make sure I install the USB2 drivers before installing SP2. THanks for your time. DG

You should beable to set USB2 at anytime regardless of wether SP" is installed or not.

If windows is not finding USB2 are you sure your motherboard supports it?

you may need to download drivers for the USB chipset on your board.

Make and model of board will help us to find suitable drivers.

The PC was OK including USB2 until I had to fit a new HD and re-install XP.

When you originally re-installed XP after fitting new drive, are you sure that SP2 was installed. My experience is that you cannot install USB2 without first having SP2 installed.

You have reinstalled XP but jave you reinstalled SP2?

The USB2 drivers for XP are built into the SP2 update.

The drivers can be installed seperately if we know your chipset.

However it is important to fully update XP if you have reinstalled.
