Make sure you have all your drivers to hand first then click here

I suggest you read this, click here and print out whatever you need.

Formatting the drive will "wipe" it clean, and therefore you will loose all data on the drive, so back-up anything you may need.

Also, make sure you have a "Start-Up" floppy.

Formatting your HD is a drastic measure if all your data is lost, I know I lost mine before I could save anything. If you want to get rid of all spyware etc download this click here run it and post the results at this forum click here don't forget to register first. They specialise in the removal of spyware etc., HTH TR

At the risk of information overload, this is how to do it click here

However as TommyRed says that is a bit drastic.

What "adware viruses" do you have and what have you tried to remove them?

try adaware from click here too

A full reformat will clear any other junk you've accumulated though, and should clear any system instabilities. If you do reformat don't forget emails, favourites, documents, and savedgames etc. need to be backed up.

"will start up be on CD?"

It depends upon whether your computer BIOS supports CD boot-up.

Assuming it does, you would have to set it as the first boot device in the BIOS.

It's best to have a boot floppy, it avoids changing BIOS settings and also if for some reason you can't boot using the CD you can use the floppy.

How do you watch AVI files and is there any free software available?

  Ironman556 18:29 06 Oct 03

Windows Media Player 9 should play AVI files I think. Some DVD playback doftware also plays AVI's if you have any. click here (I think is the site) have a free player to play MPEGs, it might do AVI too.
