RE formating

Ive been posting loads of issues regarding slow pc, ive tried every helpful comments you have all recomened, but ive got a spare hard disk, wich iwant to re-format and bin my old one as im convinced this is the problem.
The problem being is the pc ive got was second hand,i didnt have a xp disc given me, ive got one from a friend, when i go to input the auth code what do i do, the xp thats on at the moment is authentic, (i know this when you do auto updates and microsoft checks) so CAN I GET THE CODE FROM THIS PC,
please help AGAIN guys thanks.

and then just take this hd out, put in the other one and just let it boot then do a format c.

go into bios and set first boot device to CD.
Start pc with the win xp disc in the drive, it will boot from the cd, and it guides you through formatting the hdd and installing the OS.

You could then fit the old HDD as slave and copy back any useful files etc.
